I have a new 90g tank that I have just started putting livestock in.  For lighting I have a coralife aqualight pro with 2x250 mh, actinics and moon lights. I have a few corals and an anemone along with a few fish. Now that I'm putting stuff in the tank I have noticed how beautiful everything is when the actinics are on, but when the halides come on everything goes brown.  The actinics are still on but are washed out by the halides. My beautiful galaxy coral and my green frogspawn are all the color of brown tea.  Is there anything I can do to tweak my lighting so the colors POP with the halides on or it that just the price you pay to have the light the corals need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are you running for your MH? 10k?  You may want to look into some 14k's or even 20k's.

What actinics are you running? VHO or T5?

If they are T5, switch them out to some ATI Blue Plus instead of straight actinic.

It has 2 250 watt 10000K halide bulbs and according to the box 2 true actinic 03 blue compact fluorescent. I don't know if they are T5 or ATI.

Ok, so you have 10000k MH bulbs and power compacts.  That being the case, I would be looking at changing the 10000k bulbs out to 14000k bulbs or even 20000k bulbs.  Are your halides single ended or double ended?

I have single ended...if you had single, I would have been able to loan you a bulb so you could see the difference.  Maybe someone will be able to help you out with a de bulb.  Oh, I just noticed you are in ID. Do you post on IMAS too? Throw out a post and I'm sure someone will be able to help you out. Smile

Thanks for everybody's input.  I just ordered the Phoenix bulbs from Marine Depot.  They were on their black friday sale for 49 bucks.  Can't wait to try them.
