When working with Acrylic, what kind of glue can be used? I went to Lowe's and found a Silicone Sealant, but I dont think that will work? Will Super Glue work? (just for building dividers for a sump)? Thanks in advance! ------------- Mike |

For acrylic you use a solvent that welds the pieces together. You can get it at Delvies Plastic or Standard Supply in SLC. You may also be able to order it on line. They make different solvents that penetrate deeper, or dry faster etc.

Mike is right, acrylic is usually welded. That being said, if you are only using it for baffles in a sump I have seen several people use silicone. I am unsure of how well it works since I have not personally ever done it. But all outside corners MUST be welded using something like weldon #16, or #40, as far as I know, the higher the number the thicker it is and the more forgiving it is. ------------- Make sure you post your best pictures every month in our POTM forum. |

| You should really use a weldon solvent. 4 is like water and requires a syringe that you can get at any plastic supplier, I really like Delvie's. It also requires pretty precise tolerances and nicely finished edges. 16 is much more forgiving but not as strong as 4, although many times better than silicone or any other glue you could use. It will shrink as it dries and leaves a lot of bubbles as well. I have never used the 40, but from what I understand, it is like an epoxy and needs to be mixed. It is supposed to finish much nicer than 16 and stronger as well. For sump baffles, I would just use 16, you won't need any special applicators or tools and it will be more than strong enough. |

Thanks so much for the info, I had no idea. So is this solvent that welds it the only thing that can/should be used? If I was only putting baffles in, would a superglue gel be bad to use? ------------- Mike |

| You can get the weldon for less than 5 bucks, I would definitely not use super glue. |

Ditto.
Weld-on 4 for nice tight joints (i.e. new projects)
Weld-on 16 if you need to fill a gap (i.e. cobbling up a repair)
I usually buy the Weld-on 4 (pint or quart) at Regional just because that's where I usually buy my acrylic.
