Do any of you have coral that is white? I have a montipora digitita that I got from a frag meeting almost a year ago and it was white then and is white now. It may have a very very very very slight tinge of yellow but for the most part it is a soft white. I know it isn't dead because it has doubled in size, growing well, and is practically the only coral in my tank willing to extend pollops during the day (not even my pocillipora extends its pollops during the day). Will it ever change color? I just thought it was strange to have a completely white coral.

NO kidding, you WANT it to change color? Having a pure white piece sounds pretty awesome to me!

It is probably bleached. not to spoil anything for you.
I have seen this first hand. There are several reasons why a coral could bleach. Lighting and water quallity. Also sometimes changing brands of sea salts can do this. I am willing to bet if you put this coral in another tank it would color back up in a few months.

Don't corals normally DIE when they bleach? His is growing strong and even showing polyps.

I would agree with the bleaching but it looks healhy. Also it is not a PURE white (not dead coral white), it is more of a cream white. At one point almost 7 or more months ago it seemed to be getting a very slight (almost imagined) tinge of green but for reasons unknown (maybe because of my coral nipping blenny that I have now removed) that went away. Maybe it will change colors now that my blenny is removed but like I said its white and growing. When I origionally got it it was 1-2" frag. Now today it has about 3-5 branches that are each 1-2" long. Also a month an a half ago I broke off a branch that has grown another half inch since accidently breaking it off. Most of the growth has occured within the past 3-4 months I would say.

I may be able to frag it eventually but for now I am going to let it grow out.

I've seen a few white gorgonia at Aquatic Dreams.  They also have red.  These are around 15" tall.

Kevin - I recommend fragging a few pieces and seeing what they do in others tanks.

I would be interested in a piece as well. LMK
