Maybe, Cheato is really a undesirable type of algae that can be eaten.

Undesireable?? This whole time I was under the impression it was good. I'm looking at an emerald crab for help with a little hair algea.

Mine will eat chaeto if it can get a hold of it. If you worry about the crab you could try a turbo snail instead for the hair algae.

Cheato is a good algae but not so nice to look at and it grows fast in the tank. This is why it is usually grown in the sump. Crabs snails and fish will eat it as well.

A lot of people use Cheato in their refugiums but I'm not a big fan of it and definitely not in the display unless you are feeding it to your tangs.

What?! You pooped in the refrigerator, and ate the entire wheel of cheese?! I'm not even mad.... That's actually amazing!

I'm planning on snails as well. I need to beef up my CUC. I wanted an emerald crab to help with the algea, but I'm trying to diverify my tank as well. I have no sump so macro algea goes into the display. I don't want the crab to gobble up all the macro.

I'm also taking other steps to control algea as well.

The amount of Chaeto that an Emerald crab could devour is very small. It's main food is macroalgae and coralline that it scrapes off the rocks.
