What if we had a thread where we could tell people they have to many PMs? 'Cause I just wrote a long message to Jake and then it told me he has too many messages! I think giving Jake or Adam a higher limit would just mean they fill that limit. I think we need an archive feature. You select a message for archival and it removes it from your inbox and puts it into a seperate storage. Then if a message is over say 30 days old it automatically gets put into storage. Now that we have switched over to a SQL server, I think I will go ahead and increase the amount of private messages that can be stored in the system. Okay, I have increased the number of PMs from 100 to 500. Currently over 10% of the database size is due to PMs. With the forum running on MS SQL the increased database size should not impact the forum speed (at least not significantly). Please still try and keep your PM folder as small as possible. Jake- I think leaving the limit at 100 is fine. People (myself included) are just lazy about deleting them. It isn't like they need those 100 PM's. I think if you make the limit 500 some people will still just fill them up. Why take more space than we have to? And the 6th month delete method is a good idea. receive another 470!!!!! You know what this means? We never have to think about filling up again! No more waking up at night worrying about if some one is trying to reach us with a seahorse emergency! No more giving out actual phone numbers!!! We can be as lazy as we want to be and never even look at how full we are!!!! Geez, ain't life great??? Jake is the coolest guy on this planet!!! |
