Is anyone else using the Home Depot compact fluorescent bulb talked about http://www.melevsreef.com/fuge_bulb.html - --> HERE <-- I know there was a thread about them a little while back and I was wondering if anyone found the 5100K version of the bulb local. ???

I was thinking about ordering a couple at my local Home Depot, unless I can find them somewhere.

I'm holding one in my hand right now (SKU # 774-265).  The American Fork HD sell's 'em.  But I've switched my refugium light out for a Phillips 90 watt halogen bulb.  It's much much brighter and many people on reefcentral have reported good results with it.  Only drawback is that it gives off a lot of heat.

The 19 watt claims to be equivalent to a 75watt halogen. The 65watt PC spiral claims to put out as much light as a 500watt halogen. I think the spiral bulbs are a joke though since the bulb blocks much of its own light. I really like the 65 watt PC that Mark has. Its from the local lighting store (forgot the name). And you should see the growth from his mangroves under it!

Is it the LOA fixture?

The 65watt spiral is the LOA

Mark has the "normal" double-tube one common in the hobby

I have two of those 19w for my sump/refugium for 9 months now and harvest about a 5-gallon bucket full of chaeto every three weeks or so.  It looks very yellow (I can't remember what the K temperature was, I threw out the packaging), but chaeto is not selective as far as light goes.  I think it's great: low energy consumption, low heat, great macro growth.

I picked mine up along with a cheap clip on reflector...  looks like were all in macro heaven...and for a resonable price. Only one problem ...I'm having problems getting my lawnmower in the fuge to trim it back. Maybe (weed- be- gone) will work..     JK
