This is not good. On the far left side of my 125 gallon tank I have a bunch of zoos together. I also have some of what I have heard refered to as Atlantic anemones.
Well just in this corner over the last few days( maybe a week) I have notice my zoos are mostly closed up and shrinking. Also a few of the anemones dont look to hot either. I havent seen any spots or anything growing on them. Recently I have added a foxface rabbit fish and a copperband butter fly. the zoos on the other side of the tank look healthy. All the other corals look healthy. I have never experanced a problem with zoos before so I may not know what to look for. I dont know if I want to move the zoos to risk spreading a possible infection. The only thing I have done so far is a 25 percent water change which has had no effect. most of the zoos are on a large rock which is a base for the rest of the rocks. Have you done any lighting change? I had a patch of zoos start to shrink after upgrading to my 400's... then after about two weeks they are starting to come back. I think they are just more sensitive to the lighting changes |

You didn't switch salt or anything like that did you? I notice that
sometimes... If I overdose alk, I will have some of my zoos close-up
and shrink. <edit> I have never had a problem with my copperband, but have read that they can hve a taste for polyps |

Ok I will do a double check on the alk.

If you do end up losing any zoos, I think there are special precautions you
must take. I think Smatney has details, she might be of assistance. I think Calfo helped her with a problem she was having. |

Bruce, I empathize with you! Most of my zoos are in nanos and the frag tank. I tried putting a rock in the main tank and to my surprise, the fox face started eating them! Just to be safe - I would do a Lugol's iodine dip, in case you have a predator. Otherwise, I would trap both your new fish and return them.

My guess but not for sure, is that they are stinging each other and they are both winning and losing the battle together. Those "Atlantic" anemones are something I wished I had never inroduced into my tank. Bruce, Sounds like the same thing I went through. My neon blue damsel was picking at all my soft coral, which caused my zoos and polys to be closed all the time not to mention killing all my soft coral. The moment I got him out of there the zoo's started springing up and multiplying like crazy. Even your xenia is growing like mad! I would use the club fishtrap and get the fish out of there. I hate using chemicals on my tank, so I advise doing that before lugol's. The copperband is fairly aggressive so you should probably be able to get him out on the first day but the foxface may take a couple, which is good because you could watch to see if the zoos and anenome come back. If it's do to the fish they should spring back quickly, if not too damaged. Hope that helps, John |
