Hello,
I have cerith eggs in a few places in my tank. How do I ensure they don't become food? I've read they get eatin by pods, and commonly become food for the tank. Is there a way to increase my odds of them making it? Has anyone had success with raising them? Or should I just let what's going to happen... happen. And play the numbers game (maybe a few will make it) Let me know, Thanks! |

Of the various snails we can buy, Cerith Snails are the best at surviving in the aquarium. Provide a deep substrate, keep shrimp out, or to a minimum, leave them alone and they will grow. The curled egg string is cool to look at and the eggs hatch in about three days. There are ~10,000 eggs in a six inch curled string. Using a Jewelers Loop, I can see many tiny Ceriths in the substrate of my tank.

I have three peppermint shrimp and a coral banded (probably going in the
mantis tank) I have probably 12" or so of Cerith egg trail... So I'd assume best thing to do is let them do their thing? nothing special? Can 3 shrimp eat 20,000 cerith babies? I also have a mandarin goby, are they interested in them? What about margarita snails will they stay away, or is it possible during their daily chores they may in advertantly eat them? Kind of fun

3 shrimp can't catch and eat them all.
It would not surprise me in the least that a Mandarin would eat them once they have dropped out of their free floating larval stage and landed on the rock. Mandarins are way cooler than ceriths 
One of my strings of eggs has all ready released. Just two more to go. BTW has anyone looked in the frag tank at Marine Aquatics? I've never seen so many ceriths in my life! |
