What is the largest size for a captive anemone? I understand it may vary in aquarium size. I am wondering so that I can plan my Aquascape accordingly. What size so they have to be before they will split, and what causes them to split? I currently have an anemone in a 55 that is approx 12" in diameter including tentacles. |

It's all depends on the anemone. Mine splits after 5 inches or so. But I've seen the same species grow about 1 ft in diameter ------------- 210 Mixed Reef 20 Nuvo nano reef Learn your tank, not the hobby |

Aloha, What kind of anemone is in your 55? Even smaller BTA's can split. They often split due to a tank move or a stressful change in tank parameters. If the BTA can be cut in half, split right through the mouth with a sharp razor blade, both halves can recover if tank conditions are very good. I kind of have to chuckle at your comment about aquascaping. Anemones have minds of their own. They will move until they find a spot that fits their preference. Just make the aquascaping with plenty of space between rocks and create some small caves or overhangs. | Not sure on the type of anemone. I believe its a BTA. It's green with pink tips. When it is all puffed up it goes a sort of tan color. I received it on an eight pound rock and it has stayed on there. It has moved front to back a little bit, but seems to like the rock. I recently moved the rock up 6" and over 10". He's still there and seems to be even happier. I really don't want 2 of the same ones so I was hoping he wouldn't split. I would post a pic but it won't allow me to do it from my phone for some reason. |
