Does anyone have one of these kicking around? I need a new light cover (splash guard) for mine. It is the clear plastic lens that keeps the lights from getting wet.

What are the dimensions of the splash guard? I have some of the thin acrylic that I removed from other lights that I would be happy to cut for you.
I actually remove these to allow more light into my tanks, but I do not close the lid because of the low pH troubles it causes.

It would be pretty difficult to make that work. The piece I need is a molded piece. I have to remove it every time I change a lamp and it is just getting worn out. JBJ sells them for the 28 gallon tank but not the 12 anymore.

Just some things to think about. Maybe they will help - maybe they won't. If a splash guard is really needed (most of the time it isn't), maybe a flat piece of acrylic can be used in it's place. It does not need to be air tight. A longer screw with a length of vinyl tubing used as a spacer.... Often, when we look at the reason for the item, we can devise a simple way to make what seems like a complicated and costly repair. Personally, I dislike splash guards and form fitting lids. pH troubles and overheating are easily remedied when the lid is left ajar.

I like not having to top off the water often. That is probably my favorite thing about these little enclosed systems.

Mark, what have you noticed about the relation between ph and water evaporation (or lack of)? I've never witnessed this.
