I have a little giant model 2-mdq-sc that I think is rated for around 500gph (?) and I was just wondering if it is good enough for my 75 gal reef. I am going to be putting sps in there so I want something that is good enough. It is in used condition and am considering replacing it. Any suggestions on models or experiences would be helpful. Thanks, Ryan/Yozhik

IMO, a pump with good head rated for about 20x's the actual water volume would be more proper. I would recommend something more along the lines of 1200-1800 gph. Be sure that you have an overflow that will suffice if that's how you should choose to go. Of course, you could also use a smaller return and add a closed loop system for better random increased flow.

I agree with the above statement. You could use that pump for a return pump but then you are going to have to suppliment either with a closed loop or by adding some power heads in the tank.

what do you think of the Pentair Quiet one 5000? any experience with this one?  Do you think if I added perhaps a couple of powerheads that this would be enough flow? Thanks for the input so far, Ryan/Yozhik
