| I am a new hobbyist and I do not know how to raise the pH in the tank naturally. Is there any of you guys have tried any methods? I know that the pH should be above 8 but sometimes my tank get as low as 7.8. |

I've raised pH using a buffering solution that I was referred to by Rusty. I can't remember the name of it right now, but he sells it in his store. It raised it from mid 7 to 8.4 in about two weeks. But be careful! I didn't realize the effect that it had on my Alk numbers. The alk went through the roof rather quickly and I lost a lot of coral. ------------- It is possible that longing for something is actually better than having it. | I have had it as low as 7.8 many times before and it is not a huge deal. I would not mess with it. There are some things that you can do that are not an additive. You can scrub the CO2 out of the air going into your skimmer using co2 media but that can cost a lot. The ph can be affected by the levels of CO2 in your home so you could try opening a window. I have found that the best solution is to run a refugium on a reverse light schedule (meaning that the light turns on at night). I spent a long time in the 7.9 range and It was fine. The corals still grew and the tank looked nice. I now run around 8.3 and I believe that it is because I have a strong light on a decent sized refugium. |
