Hello all, well it's been almost a year since I joined wmas and I have still have yet been able to make it to one of the monthly meetings.  I'm hoping to make it to one of the meetings real soon.

Anyhow, I thought i would post this pic of one of my mushrooms after it split into four pieces about a week ago.  The shrooms have split before but they never made a face at me. lol.  Anyhow, here is mushroom face (sorry about the blurry picture, I wish i had steadier hands).

I bet it is a new communication device for the dead.  I would sell it on Ebay and advertise it as "Dead Relatives reincarnated through corals".  You can explain the benefits of keeping your loves ones close, yet contained.  I bet you could bring in enough for a whole family of corals.

Are you using a little Activated Carbon from time to time? And how is the Alkalinity? That's what I see from the pics.

Mark, yes i am running activated carbon.  Although it has been a few months since i changed the carbon.... Also, my alkalinity is most likely low as I only add reef builder carbonate alkalinity about 5 times a month.  I was regularly checking and trying to raise the alkalinity, but I could not seem to get it  past the low reading on the test kit, hence i only dose with the reef builder stuff occasionally.

This may be a dumb question of mine, but hopefully someone will be able to explain this to me.....

Is raising/maintaining alkalinity the same as the term buffering?  If not, can someone please shed light on the term buffering as it relates to reef aquariums?  Many thanks....
