<span ="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: verdana, geneva, lucida, 'lucida grande', arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: normal; white-space: pre-wrap; ">This is something that I have never heard of, but makes perfect sense to me. Saltwater tropical fish spawn on the reefs in the Caribbean, Florida, and Carolinas and the fish eggs and larvae are carried up into northern waters by the ocean current. They end up in places that can not support them during the winter months. Here is an article that I stumbled onto from the New York Times. Be sure to check out the video segment in the article.

The link didn't work me.

Some info for you... we get tropicals that work up the eastern coast each year.  Every fall several aquariums and collectors go out and catch all they can.  It is kind of like "ethical collecting."  All those fish will die during the winter so if you catch them you are giving them a chance at life.

So every October people head out to catch all they can.  It is quite the experience.  If I remember I'll post some pictures about it.
