I had a current nova extreme 2 x48" for years now. It died last week when I put in coral life light bulbs. The ballast is as much as the light fixture. I am looking for a new light fixture.   I really want led max spects but I do not have the full amount yet. I need to buy a set until I can get them.   I need any recommendations on t5 light fixtures and where to buy it from.

Not too long ago.... JesseJames had quite a few of the T5HO fixtures.  He might still have some and he was selling them for a great price.  Try contacting him and see if he has any left.  Hope this helps.

A Workhorse 7 ballast runs two 48" 54W T5's. I just looked online and found that a WH7 is only $36. I have been using them for years. They are very reliable. Many of the ballasts found in light fixtures are Workhorse, made by the Fulham Co.

I place the ballast in-line so it is away from the fixture and the tank. This helps keep some heat away from the aquarium. Let me know if you would like my help with wiring. I'm happy to share my expertise at no charge.

Aloha Hug

Mark
Where did you find that ballast? All the ones I found were about 30 but 30 to 40 shipping.

That's a WH5. You need a WH7. Until just recently I was in Amazon Prime so I would get free shipping. They wanted $100 for renewal so I cancelled.

Don't know where you live, but Commercial Lighting Supply has them for about $50.

Will a Phillips brand work?   I am three hours from salt lake and trying to find something local to my area. That's the only ballast my local company has.

I'm not sure. You need to compare the specs in the datasheets. I got my last one at home depot.

The ballasts found at local hardware stores are typically not high output. The t5's would only run dim.

Where do you live? Maybe we could arrange something.

I am putting together an order with Amazon right now for some things I need that come with free shipping. I just found a WH7 for $36 with estimated shipping of only $7. Here is the link but it may be specific to my Amazon account. http://amazon.com/gp/product/B001P23CHA/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2LTR9PLG4BV2H

If that link doesn't work for you, please feel free to call/text me so we can work this out on the spot. I want to place the order today.
