So I have an aluminum box that houses the ballasts for three 175 W halides. It's hot and heavy and ugly. What do I do with it?

-Not on top of the canopy (ugly and heavy)
-Not in the sump area (too hot)
-Not on the floor (my daughter)
-Don't have a seperate room or closet for fish stuff

I was thinking of making a little short wooden box (I have some good scraps) with a fan in it that I can put on the floor next to the aquarium so it's close, hopefully cooler to the touch than the bare ballast housing and safe for small hands and hopefully doesn't look bad.

Any ideas or pictures of things other people have done in this situation.

Thanks

Stephan,

I hang the ballast on the back of the stand using plumber's tape and a couple of grabber screws. Use spacers to keep it from contacting the wood. It works great and they are mostly hidden from view.

No, they are in an aluminum box (12x9x6) so you can't see the bare ballasts, but the aluminum box they are in gets too hot to the touch to have it out with kids.

Shane- does it bother you to have the stand that far from a wall? It would be about 8" I guess in my case.

I kept mine in the stand. The stand has an open back and I had a cooling fan in the stand.

Not really. My ballasts were not the largest thing in the back of my tank. My overflow box and plumbing were larger.

But ... I do like having a bit more room behind the tank.
