Like Chad, I bore out the inlet and outlets to ease the flow restriction. To clean, I just put the pump and scwd in a bucket of vinegar and let run for a few hours when they start sticking. Sometimes to get them started you can smack the body of the scwd with a screwdriver handle and it will knock it loose.

For the price of the larger one you might want to consider getting one of the OceanMotions units on a tank that size.

Edited by fishoutawater - March 10 2010 at 8:56am

They take a lot of energy to switch. Energy that could be used in moving water. IMO, linear water movement gets an unfair bad rap.

For changing flow direction, in tanks from 10 to 100 gallons, I love the "poormans wavemaker". It's very powerful. I wrote about it in an old thread you can find in the Tips and How to's section of my much older thread: http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9244

Its been on there for about 6 months or so now. It has worked great but I think I need to take it off and clean it because I don't think it is switching any more. I'm not sure exactly how easy it will be to clean since the small one doesn't come apart for cleaning like the large one does. I'm thinking of getting one of the larger one for my new 210 gallon tank!
