I've been using Windex, but i get this nice white film left behind that I have to scrub off after words. Maybe my huge halides make it dry to fast? Does anyone use anything special? Thanks!

Windex is really not a good idea, although there are those out there who still use it with no problem. I have never had to use windex. I just use a towel to remove spots after they have dried and then the felt on my magnetic scraper polishishes it reall good.

I use windex as well.  I think the key is not to spray a lot of it on the towels; just spray enough to make it moist and then use it to wipe the tank.

I use some industrial strengh stuff called 20/20. I am careful not to get any near the seams. You can tell when the glass is clean because it squeaks when you rub the towel across. Not really but almost. It does do a better job than windexIMO.

I wouldn't use windex with ammonia because you don't want the ammonia in the tank.  I use the windex made with vineagar.

With the amount of $$$ I have in my tank.  I want to avoid any risks.

fair enough, every little bit counts...

just seems like a trivial risk compared to the fact most people don't run chillers in the summer or have backupa generators for when the power goes out both of which are problems people seem to have occur about once a year at least

You can use distilled white vinegar. It works very well, doesn't streak and the overspray is not a large risk.

I also use it to wipe down my boat. It does a good job on hard water spots. I'm sure it strips the wax though.

I think Windex is great for glass with oily residue or some actual dirt, but my tank just gets salt creep and an occasional nose print so RODI water works well, and I feel bettter knowing my tank only has to be exposed to h2o2.

I also don't use spray furniture polish, or air freshener or any spray chemical in my basement.

 Paranoia?

Try it! My teacher told me this tip in elementry school. I used it for windows and patio doors, too.

Thanks,

Better hydrogen peroxide than dihydrogen monoxide.

That stuff can kill you.

I truely believe that the RO/DI I use on my tanks works better than the windex I used to use.  If done properly there are rarely any streaks left.

I do agree with John to some extent though.  I only clean the glass when I want to show it off such as the reef tour and when I want to take Pics.  Otherwise I usually just look around the dirty spots.

RO water works great for me, too.  I heard that windex is bad for reefs, so I don't let my wife near the tank with it.

It is pretty bad stuff, but I've heard that if you mix kool-aid and some sugar with it the chemicals bind in a special way and then it's good to drink.

Could just be a rumor though.  Don't try this at home.

There is an ammonia free glass/acrylic clenaer available at Costco. I can't remember it's name right now, but I use it everyday because it is reef safe.

In all honesty, I've never cared enough to buy anything fancy.  I just use regular old windex.
