I have seen anemone's eat a lot of different things but not usually hermits. ------------- What?! You pooped in the refrigerator, and ate the entire wheel of cheese?! I'm not even mad.... That's actually amazing! |

Is there a shell in the anemone also? There is a chance that it is just a molt and not the actual hermit. ------------- What?! You pooped in the refrigerator, and ate the entire wheel of cheese?! I'm not even mad.... That's actually amazing! |

| no, the shell is covered in coraline just below the crab in the pic... my guess is that the hermit was curious or just bugging the anem. |

I wish mine would eat the hermits in my tank. I need to pull my hermits out and sell them. I hate those little guys lately

There was something the hermit found tasty near the RBTA and then the RBTA found something tasty on the hermits shell. Animals discover what things are by smelling and tasting them then spitting out the non-food stuff. I would guess the anemone grabbed it for a moment, but later released it.
Too many hermits in a the tank cause problems because they get too hungry and then get aggressive looking for anything to eat. When they get this way, half of them should be traded for snails.
One of the biggest disasters for a reef aquarium is not having enough snails to prevent an algae bloom. Snails eat the hair algae when it is just a sprout on the rock that we cannot even see. Without sufficient snails, the sprouts grow and as they grow longer these older, tougher algae fronds become distastful. This then allows the hair algae to multiply and spread to other areas of the tank. To be sure, too many snails can create starvation but I'd rather see too many than not enough. A few extra hungry snails can be removed and placed in another tank in need, but hair algae once started, requires considerable time and patience to remove.
