I am getting ever closer to setting up my 50 gallon, and first reef tank ever. One thing I am really confused about is the sump. I got a 20 gallon sump from KSL last night-- my wife thinks I'm boring for getting excited about that-- but since my tank is a bowfront, I do not have it drilled. I'm assuming I'll need to have a hang-on overflow box, but I don't know what gph I need. Does that need to meet certain criteria based on the pump that I get, the sump volume, or the tank? How do I figure all of that out and avoid pouring my water all over the place? Thanks!

Should be able to drill the back. I doubt it is tempered. Better choice than a hob overflow. Drill at your own risk though.  A 500 gph return pump would be a good choice. Depending on head height (usually about three feet, pumping up against gravity) this would get you in the right gph return for your system.
