Does any body know how I could grow/make green water? If so could help me out and if not that then does any body have any green water I could buy?

Heres what Id get, but there are many methods to grow it.

Light source (fluorescent tubes work well)

containers (ie 2L bottles)

air pump

silicone air tubing

rigid air tubing

Starter culture from WMAS member

Does anyone else grow green in larger amounts (10+ gallons) like i do or does everyone do the pop bottle method?

I have honestly never had a culture crash and it seems like you all are putting in so much more effort with the pop bottle method...  Just wondering if i'm really that lucky or if there are others doing it in larger batches successfully as well.

I set up a 10 gal tank about 2 weeks ago. It's a wonderful shade of dark green

Ive grown nannochloropsis in a 20 gallon aquarium with an open top. It never crashed but the density was pretty low after a while. But most people that do the 2L bottle method start out with contaminated cultures  that have been in the club for a long time so I don't think it really matters what method you use.

Try dumping some of the large-batch culture into a 2L bottle. You may be surprised how much light shines through. A good culture should be somewhere between dark green and black while holding it in front of a fluorescent light.

When it comes down to it though, you just need to add more of the low-density culture and theres probably nothing bad about that if you keep up with your water changes.

I just increased my set up from the two liter bottle method to two five gallon glass jugs. After two weeks everything is as green as ever.

I find I don't use the green water as often as I used to. How often / how much are most people using?

When I had my 90 gallon, I added about a gallon a week.

Where did you get your 5 gallon glass jugs?

5 gallon glass carboy's can be had at any of the local homebrewing shops.  they come in a variety of sizes from 1gal up to 7.5 gallons.  5 and 6.5 gal are the most common.

I use the pop bottle method AND I have a 10 gallon tank and a 20 gallon tank that I try to keep green water in.  My cultures have crashed at times, sometimes all of it!, sometimes just one method (ie., pop bottle or tank).  My tanks seem to be more susceptible to contamination than the pop bottles.  Glass jugs just seem like the pop bottle method only bigger!  I use 3 liter pop bottles when I can get them.

Bananatropics,

If I had known that you are interested, I would have brought one of the five gal jars for you last night. I have one and can get more. I don't know how much Dave Tea wants for them but Shane and I got ours from Dave. He has many more, perfect for growing phyto. Imagine a canning jar in the five gallon size. That's what these look like.

Bob,

I have a lot of phyto if you want to come get some. Did yours go yellow or did it go clear with billions of rotifers?

May I have some of those rotifers, a gallon perhaps?

Did you order a gallon of F2? If so, may I buy a pint.

Mark, I am waiting on Part B of the solution. One gallon  of A & B will make       7, 000 gallons. I will definately give you plenty. It's made by Kent and I found it at Aquatic ECO Systems. As soon as I get it I'll give you a call. It's been a while since I looked at you tanks. Almost forgot, I can bring the rots tomorrow if you will be around.
