I'm interested to hear from anyone keeping these long term and how to do it.

Keeping one for over a year in your aquarium is what I consider long term.

In my experience that kind of care for a Flame Scallop requires water circulation thick with phytoplankton and detritus. Feeding BSD Tahitian Blend Algae Paste 3 or more times/week and almost daily stirring of different portions of the sand bed can help keep a scallop adequately fed. Daily feeding the fish/tank with frozen food (including the excess water that comes with the frozen food) is also recommended.

Aloha,
Mark  Hug

Here's a link to a pretty comprehensive article about them.

Thanks Molli. That article is over a decade old but still very good.

Above I mentioned http://www.BrineShrimpDirect.com" rel="nofollow - Brine Shrimp Direct (BSD) Tahitian Blend Algae Paste which is a blend of four single celled algae(phytoplankton) and Astaxanthan(a natural color enhancing pigment).

BSD also has its frozen New Wave Rotifer product that I've been using to feed all the filter feeders(read coral and the bugs that coral eat) in the coral farm. It would probably be best to feed at night, but that's too inconvenient so it goes into the same shot glass with all the other frozen foods: Mysis Shrimp, Brine Shrimp, Fish Roe and New Wave Arctic Copepods, all from BSD. At night my coral farm system gets BSD.

Lazy me, at night I feed Golden Pearls of the 50-100 micron size.

Everything I feed comes from Brine Shrimp Direct. Heart We are so lucky to have them near us in Ogden.

So are most of your reefkeeping methods. Do you ALWAYS have to one up the advice of others?

Just post your thoughts and leave it at that.

I believe most people would have read my statement as saying the article is still a good one and that Molli is awesome for finding it. Anyway, that's what I meant by that.
