Hey guys I'm hoping someone can help me identify what's on my copperband. I've dealt with ich before but these blotches seem bigger than any ich I've seen. I tried to get a picture but he won't sit still. There's a group of these blotches on its body and they look like salt build up. I guess that's the closest I can get to describing it without a good picture. Thanks in advance!

Really hard to tell from that picture but it looks like marine velvet to me. I'm not the pro on this topic but I've seen quite a few cases in the last year or so and that's what it looks like to me. Hopefully ReefdUp will chime in. She will have lots of great info. Krazie

Thanks for the reply. I've just noticed a black spot on its fin as well.

Hmmm, search here on the forum for Velvet or Marine Velvet within the last two months. I believe there was a very informative thread. Found it:

If it is velvet, how fast does it kill? I first noticed spots on its tail last Thursday. All other fish show no signs of anything. The copperband seems a little irritated but its still active and eating normally

By the time most people notice a fish has velvet, it's usually dead within 24 hours. I doubt it's velvet.

I'm leaning toward Lymphocystis. It's a virus that causes white growths on the body.   In most cases it's harmless. There's no real treatment for it, but it does tend to flare up in adverse conditions (stress, malnutrition, or poor water conditions).

Google some images of it, and let me know what you think.

Nikki I think you hit it right on the head. I bought the fish last Wednesday and I'm guessing the stress from the move is causing it to flare up.
