    Posted: April 20 2007 at 11:27am
I have a 24 Gal Nano Cube that has been up for about 2 months and I suppose it is now time to replace my sponge filters. When i went to purchase them they are costing about $11 a piece. that doesn't seem to bad until i realized that there are two in the first chamber of the over flow and one in the second.

Does that seem like over kill to have 3 sponge filters in the tank? Do i really need more than one?

I have tried to research this online, but i have found nothing, so i thought i would come to the most reliable source i know of.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

thank you all.

That sounds like a lot of sponge filters to me, but then again who am I to know...  So here's a question for anyone, is there a way to clean a used sponge filter and re-use it?  Just curious...

Yes you can ... you can place them in your clothes washer with a cap full of bleach .. use hot water and extra rinse ... or just rinse them out under tap water ....

When we had a JBJ 24 nano we just used one sponge with no problems.

I've never replaced a sponge -
with that said - I rinse mine once a week when I do my water change.  I also put live rock in the back and it works great.  I now have 4 nanos and love them and a 54 gal corner.
