90 gallon dimensions

Could someone with a 90 gallon tank (48x18x24) give me the outside dimensions. I need the exact "footprint" of the tank including the trim. I need these measurements so I can make a canopy of the correct size.

The footprint would be the 48 x 18 dimension.  You have approx, 1/4" in of glass on each side plus the top brace.  I don't know the exact dimension though.

Eric, aren't the dimensions of a 90 gallon tank 48 long x 18 front to back x 24 high ?  Doesn't that make the footprint for making a canopy closer to 48 x 18 ?

I think you would be safe with those measurements, my tank is 36 x 18 and the canopy is 36 5/8" inside dimension.

 

Whenever I do a DIY project, I do not attempt to make it without having both items in front of me so that I can fit it every time I make any kind of cut, like when I need to saw some wood or plastic, cut some glass, etc. etc.

I would have trusted Eric's word on the dimensions, but then it became clear that he made a mistake. I don't trust myself to even cut things right on the first try so I measure it, mark it, hold it up to the other object, and then repeat to check my work before making the actual cut.

And what if you get a tank that for some reason is just a little off and you already have the hood cut, fitted and painted. You will wish you had been just a little more patient. Just my 2 cents worth.

Mark, good advice for future reference. It's just difficult to have a nice, new, empty tank sitting on the kitchen floor without a stand/canopy ready to receive it. That takes a lot more patience than I've got right now. This old tank has got to go as soon as possible.

Thanks everyone! We just wanted to be sure. Now we can sleep better knowing that unless we get a defect, our hood should fit our future aquarium.
