Perfect.  That's what I will do.  I am going to use Utah rock for the base pieces, and the nice live rock from my 20g for the "shelf."

I used acrylic rods like stilts - three in each base rock (three is always stable since three points define a plane). then I piled some rocks against the stilts themselves where they were visible to hide it. It looked really good and worked like a charm.

On my 90 I want to do a semi Bare Bottom with large (1/2"- -3/4") gravel in a thin layer.  It would be good for the circulation to keep the rocks off the bottom by an inch or so.  Would the acrylic rods work like stilts or did the rocks just slide on them?  I suppose I could just drill short holes and stick rods in to them so they stuck out an inch or so.

I am going to have a DSB in the fuge (just so Mark won't have a fit ).

I had two Dolphin 3 pumps pumping 3600 gph each through those pipes, but frankly it should have been a lot more - twice that much to have good flow.

The pipes don't need to be embedded in the cement, but they would harder to hide. After a couple years I raised the rock up off the bottom and had water "sweeping" underneath to keep the detritus from collecting underneath, and that worked well. It would be hard to do that if there were pipes under there blocking the flow - you'd have to align the flow with the pipes.
