Pink... with purple polka dots! What types of wood did you use? If you used a combination of pine and oak, you might be able to offset contrasts with different pigments of stain if you want to get a natural wood look. Also, take into account the grain. It can look similar, but they are different.

As for painting, I really don't like black furniture. What color are your walls? Maybe you could do a light base with the trim a darker, more vibrant color. I think that you should blend the stand into the room as much as possible and let the tank itself pop if you don't have other natural wood furniture.

Just my opinion, but I like simplicity.  Black would be dramatic, but don't you want people looking more at the drama in your tank?  Also black would make your living room look smaller.  Any off-white should work great.  Or a pastel, but you're a guy... so maybe not pastels.
