Usually the same ballast is used to run 36" and 48" fluorescent tubes. Decided to the steal the VHO's off my 180 Gallon FW tank. They came with it and they don't need that much light. I'll trade them with the NOs I have on my Saltwater right now.  So that'll leave me with 4 36" blue VHO actinics and 2 or 3 250W MHs....Should work nicely.

Now I just have to finish building my canopy.

It's all opinion. My system uses 2 175 watt mh(12k) and 4 55 watt pc's(2 act/2 10k), I I think they're great! I believe that if I had vho's in place, I'ld be equally as pleased, though.

I think the VHOs look much better, and I really don't think they're any more expensive. These are the VHOs I have and they look great. It's all opinion, but I really like VHO over PC when it comes to actinics.  But some of the newer actinic PC bulbs are making that choice harder.

i love my VHO's over my PC's. $24 a bulb and 39 for the ballest i don't think its any more the PC's.

Are VHO's that much better to justify the extra $$? Specifically with regards to color you get out of your corals.
