Swings, as others have mention, are IMO a much bigger issue then Salinity. Anything kept stable between 1.023 - 1.026 is fine. Keeping my salinity stable at 1.026 has been one of the things that has most helped my coral growth and health. I'm a 1.023 kinda guy, but I noticed a world of difference in health in my corals when I plumbed in an auto topoff. The salinity doesn't jump around anymore.

Avoiding big swings in SG (more than 0.001 from highest to lowest) is far more important IMO than the particular point you choose to keep it at. Especially for SPS.
 
 
 
 
Agreed any swing in anything is not good. I have been questioned multiple times about why my salt was so low.
