Jamison - you took my breath away on your posting when you showed the picture of the Pepermint Angel and said you paid $5,000 for him at a 1/2 price sale. Glad you were joking!!!! The are rare and impossible to get - coming out of Japan...like you said in excess of 10k each.

I would love to get a Conspiculatous Angel someday when I'm rish. I've seen them and they sell for arounf $1200. Also a Clarian Angel would also be nice. From another forum response, I have a Linneatus Wrasse - paid $175 from my local retailer - he is beautiful.

The most I've spen for fish and coral is:

1). Goldflake angel - $350 2). Christmas Island Large Oragne tail emperor - $450

2). Acanthastrea Lordenthesis - $500 - from ebay a month ago - that was crazy!

Yes, I know everyone, I have a serious addiction and it must be stopped, but I've been in this hobby for 15 years and I love it! I used to get my exotic fish from mail order - Marine Center in Dallas, Tx. Now I get all my fish and coral from a local retailer who is good to me in Syracuse, NY.

Just my two cents.  I'd much rather spend the money on a nice piceof coral than a fish.  Ironically, the fish are what attracted meto the hobby but now I hardly pay attention to them.  If I see anice reef tank I drool over a nice piece of coral and hardly payattention to any fish. 

I'm sure this isn't the same for everyone but I wouldn't spend morethan $30 for a fish.  Yet, a show piece of coral would tempt me tospend a whole lot more.

I spent $65 on a purple tang, and another $69 on an eligance coral. I think the most that I have spent on a fish is $60, and I have spent 50 on others and I have bought groups of fish (anthias) for over $100. I have arrived at the point of not paying more than $30 for a fish, or $30 dollars worth of livestock at any given point. I will pay big dollars for just the right fish if I know that I will be able to keep it alive, needless to say I will never pay big bucks for a fish again, because of the gamble. Over the years I have probably spent triple on livestock than what I still have alive. I was on alantisaquarium.net and they have fish for similar prices, they
have a hawiian dragon eel for $1000 and a bunch of scorpion fish and

 I thought for sure everyone would know I was joking. One of the perils of on-line communication. Sorry. The top fish is a rare pygmy angel called a Peppermint Angel and folks do spend upwards of ten grand for them. The bottom is a Weedy Sea Dragon and a protected species, but can unfortunately still be purchased illegally for a similar price. I've purchased 3 different fish for around $60 and loved them all. I think we all choke a little when we drop a large chunk of change on a critter, but it's all relative really. I have like $750 off rock in my aquarium for crying out loud. I think it's cool when people research the fish they really like the best and purchase those as opposed to going out and filling up a tank with the cheap ones that you see everywhere. I love the Labouti Wrasse too as well as the five bar or mystery wrasse. I was close to buying a male Watanabei Angel, but the $250 price tag was too much to bare. Best of luck with whatever fish you purchase. Yes I will be sure that my tank is ready for them. I am setting it up in about two weeks and I'll start putting fish in about september. I have all the fish picked out and my rockwork will be designed to keep fairies and flashers comfy.

And I feel much better about spending a $100 on fish now that I have beheld a $10k fish. Holy crap! My wrasses are cheap as could be

That seahorseish critter is spectacular Jasmison! How big is he/she?
