Author: Fatman
Subject: 70983
Posted: April 23 2014 at 8:56am

The Jebao power head has a controller that offers several different modes and "speeds" as well as a random mode. If you remove the Jebao controller from the circuit and instead use your tank controller (Apex, Reef Angel, etc.) you now have much more control. You can program it to alternate each head, add timings and "speeds" that are not available on the standard Jebao controller. Plus, unless you have a Jebao dual controller that runs two power heads, you can synchronize them. The plus for me is that I can hit water change or feeding mode on my controller and turn off all the tanks pumps including the power heads. If I use the Jebao controllers I need to turn off each of the controllers (in my case three, the tank controller and two Jebao controllers).

Hope that helps.

You might want to slip up this way one day and see how mine are set up, you can play with them for a bit. They are on the Jebao controllers right now, I just ordered the parts to put them on my tank controller (a Reef Angel) and should have that running soon. Once that's up I can monitor and control them from anywhere I have a data connection on my Android phone.

Fat
Can you clarify why people do this if the powerhead has it's own controller ? I don't see anyone do this with ecotech power heads ?

It has three constant output speeds H1 H2 and H3. Then there is W1 W2 and W3 for different wave modes and finally Else mode (which I think is random). I have two wp40s on my 120 and love to put one in W1 (highest wave) and the other in Else mode. It really makes a random wave (too much wave but it's fun to see).

If you have a controller you can run them off of it as long as it has a 5 or 10 volt controllable output. I just ordered up a bunch of circuit boards to make some up for my Reef Angel. Erik is getting a couple for his Apex. Then you can do about anything you want with them include alternate them, add a pause to the program, etc.

I have one WP25 and koralia 1150 in my 72 bowfront and when i cranked the wp25 all the way all the fish scattered into the rockwork for safety... poor clownfish rode the wave it created and almost went carpet surfing. So in my experience i would assume that the 25 would be to much for 36" tank unless you dial it way way way down.
