Sorry, as much as we all like the fish, losing the dogs is awful.  Were electrical issues covered at the DIY meeting?  If not, given the severe consequences of the problem and the fire department report that happens with some frequency, maybe we should get an electrician to come speak for the group with some tips for how to make our systems safer.

I think a tank raising is a great idea, everyone can bring a "donation" to his new tank.  Some rock, some sand, some frags, some fish, etc.

I'm so sorry about the dogs.  I know how attached we are to our dogs - that would be devistating.

Maybe we should have a tank-raising in April!

thebutler4,    sounds like the changes you have made are great, the main thing is to keep the two (water and Power) as far apart as  you can...

Just check everything one in awhile to make sure you aren’t getting any salt creep.

unfortunately the smoke got them, that was the hardest thing about it all, the rest was just things, all of which can be replaced.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words, they have my house sheet rocked and should start painting next week! So I hope to be back in and put up a new tank by the first of April!

Wow H200,

I'm sorry for your loss, but thanks for the heads up.  Now I'm worried a little, I don't have a sump tank (no overflows) and the under side of my tank is built like cabinets (totally closed in) so it shouldn't ever get wet, but you never know.

Sorry to bring up an old post .. but that was a wake up call for me .... my ballasts for my MH are now out side the stand .. my power strip is mounted on the wall next to the tank .... I had an electrition wire me a new plug from the wash room .. it comes right from the washer outlet ... according to him code says the washer must be on its own circuit with nothing else (well I guess I am out of code now cause it shares the tank) .. he also put in the GFI outlet ...

Am I safe? ... wholy cow thats scarry!
