Ok all you zoanthid people.  I have several different species of zoos that have been taken over by encrusting gorgonia.  I tried to surgically remove the gorgo but it keeps coming back, so instead I am going to remove the zoanthids from the rocks and attach them to new rocks so I have two questions:
1)  What is the best way of getting the zoos off the rock, I have accidentily pop them off when trying to take off the gorgo
2)  How do you attach them to the rocks.  My plan calls for rock rubble and a very slow moving current and spreading them on the bottom of a ten gallon tank or even better, putting them in shallow cups.

Thanks,
John

You can just pull the zoos off and use gel super clue to attach them to another rock.

On many zoantids and palythoa, you can grab them at the base of the stock with tweezers or hemostats an "roll" them off.  I like to get at least 2, pinch them then roll the tool and they kind of peel off.  Some like to stick with super glue and others don't.

I am a fan of bridal netting for holding them (and other soft corals) in place. put a drop or two of CA glue on each side the zoos. Then take a small strip of the netting, put one twist in it then place the thin part over the zoos an ensure the netting goes into the glue.

We are having a fragging class at the next IMAS meeting and I need to  get some more netting. I will try to remember to take pictures of what I am talking about and post it...

Thanks Amber and Scott.
I was suspecting that gluing would not work as the few attempts I made at gluing softies didn't worked.  I'll have to try it and will put it on rubble rock.  Scott, you described exactly what I did.  I had a pair of forceps pulling off the sheets of gorgonia and would occasionally 'pop' a zoo off the rock.  The unfortunate thing about this process is that there are hundreds of zoos that will need to be transfered, which will take a while and I'll probably go cross-eyedWink

Another way is to use pliers or something similar to take some rock off with the zoos.  Then it is much easier to use the glue.  I have a pair of "Hoof nippers" that I like to use.  I use these quite a bit with mushrooms when I want to remove the whole thing and don't want it to come back.
