I've been pretty disappointed with my aquascaping for a while now. I feel that I can make it a little more unique so I've collected a little bit more rock. I also went and bought a diamond bit for my dremel and tested it out. I can cut through LR easier than wood, so I'm excited by the prospect of being able to cut and design the rock a lot easier.

My plan is to use a combination of twist ties, acrylic rods and Aqua mend to create something more unique. Any suggestions, problems with this technique? I'll also be using a combination of LBTR, Fiji and various types of LR.

Ok. Let me delve into this deeper. I'll show the process so I can document what I'm trying to do. That way if I totally screw up, maybe someone can help me.

First let me show you a picture of my aspiration for this tank. This is Nick's 120 gallon that he recently put together

I love what he did with the tonga branch. It provides lots of great shapes and fills the space without being dense and will allow for great coral growth.

My tank has 4 rocks that are extremely stable due taking the advise of Mark and putting them on pedestal rocks. I know they're stable because my engineer goby has excavated them all. Here is an above and front view of these rocks. (Done in Paint... yes they look like my 5 yr old sketched them)
Front:

Above:

Here are my initial thoughts on how I want to structure the rock. It's a bit thicker than Nick's since I'm not patient enough to buy Tonga branch and I will be constructing most of it.

Front:

This is from above. Another advantage of styling the tank this way is to utilize the light better. I feel that with the current pseudo rock pile I have now that I have very limited space to put corals that need high light. As well as shade for corals that don't need as much light. I'm hoping this also helps flow.

These are pretty crude drawings and just a rough sketch of what I want to do. It's not set in stone (he he pun) so I would like any suggestions or comments to make this better. Thanks!

You might want to take a look at Vida Rock...

It is a ceramic rock aragonite blend that you can get in pretty much any shape or configuration you could imagine.

I have some in my 225 and I am very happy with it.

I thought about it, but for the size and scope of what I'm doing would be fairly expensive using Vida Rock. I already have this rock, so all it will cost me is time and a little bit more for aquamend.
