I have been searching for a long time now, does anyone know where I can buy a berghia. Not too popular in the stores around here. If anyone has seen any please let me know. Thanks.

I'm thinking of a Butterfly cross bred with a nude Berghia. Does that sound good?

Seriously though, who is it that has a Butterfly just waiting to eat Aiptasia if they only would only bring it to him. Is it Pistonfister?

The aiptasia eating nudibranch Berghia is extremely difficult to come across.

The Pet Factory is the only place I know that has had them recently.

I would stay away from Berghia (unless you can easily get some), and try other methods for Aiptasia control.

I guess it just died suddenly. Too bad - guess he was a picky eater. He ate himself hungry

Jake why would you suggest staying away from them. I have been doing some research on them and they seem very hardy by everyone elses account if you can find them. Hey mark I am all for a copper/berghi. I think we could become millionaires.

Transam.

I used to breed Berghia.  They are very hardy.  I used to raise them in a mason jars in my pantry without filtration.

They also do an awesome job of controlling Aiptasia.  That is all they eat.

Here are the problems.

-They are small.  Have you every seen on in person?  They are tiny.  One large Aiptasia would feed 4-5 of them for a couple of days.  The only way to effective remove large infestations of aiptasia is to buy a few and get them to breed in your aquarium (or to bred them outside the aquarium).

-They are expensive.

-They die after all the Aiptasia is gone.

Don't get me wrong.  I love them, and if you can locate some and get them for a good price I would go ahead and add them to your aquarium, but they are usually hard to find and are expensive.

Below:  Berghia before and after eating an Aiptasia.

I actually found a guy on RC that breeds and sells them. They are cheap at $8 a piece but shipping will probably be about $30-40 so if I buy a few it will all be good, for me. I have a little lettuce nudi in my tank about 1/4" long have had him for awhile and nothing has seemed to bother him at all. I have aips in my main tank that are not out of control but would like to reign in. And in my fuge I have just been too lazy to get after them. So I figure a few nudis and it should keep them manageable in the main and if I see them depleting the stock in their I will just move them to the fuge and that will keep them going for some time no doubt.

I have a aiptasia loving butterfly, but she is so not for sale! I
keep putting rocks in from other parts of the reef for her to clean
up!

If you want to bring your rocks here, she'll clean 'em up for you!

Hey shane there is a waiting list. I had him put my name on it for 2. Let me know how many you want and I will have him add a couple to the order. He said it would probably be about 3-4 weeks before he can fill the order.

This has got me to thinking... about the times I've had Aiptasia, even got some on a rock from someone else and then they either disappear or at least don't multiply. I wonder what else may be in the tank that either eats them or either enhances or inhibits their reproduction.

We know that some types of Peppermint Shrimp eat the small ones, but do we know whether there is some particular combination of water chemistry variables that effects them.

Perhaps the reason this came to mind is, last night Seti007 and I went out and collected rock and sand for his new 500 gal. Wait, no it wasn't that, it was when we got back to his house and were looking at his tanks.

Anyway, Asad told me he had a few flatworms but had only a few drops of Flatworm Exit left. He poured it in the tank. He soon noticed the flatworms moving faster than usual, kind of like they were irritated, like when the usual full treatment is given. Now, 2 weeks later he has no flatworms. Go figure.

Well the little berghias are on their way. Should be here tomorrow. I will post pics and keep you updated to the progress of them. I have a fuge full of aips. I will take before and after pics as they get going. Maybe try to breed some and trade at meetings for frags.

Recived my berghias today. I was shorted but the guy promptly pay pal'd me the money that I was owed. So over all a thumbs up. As soon as they where acclimated I released them on to a rock that had a fairly large aip on it and they immediately went to town on it. After about 5 hours they have put the big hurt on it. They are awesome little creatures. I tried to get pics but my camera just isn't the best and they are tiny. So I will keep trying to get pics and post. The guy is saltyunderground on RC if you are thinking berghia he is your man.

Sounds like now you could have some fun watching for their breeding behavior. Do they lay eggs or bear live young?
