is it on a big piece of rock? or a small piece. if its small i would just take it out of the tank and let it dry out... sometimes emerald crabs will eat it, but imo once you start with it it will spread like crazy. careful not to pop it in the tank. that supposedly releases spores and spreads it. you can also take the rock out and pry them off the rock. they always seem to come back when i do that though.

I've had good luck with mythrix (emerald) crabs if they are new and still have a taste for it. They won't eat it when it gets too big though. Otherwise take the rock out of the tank and either get rid of it, let it dry out, or remove the bubbles out of the water. I've not had a problem with it but I keep emerald crabs and used to remove it when I saw it.

I had a major problem with is a few years ago. I talking it flat took over. I took a Saturday and some tweezers and went through 150 lbs of rock with a fine toothed comb. I did not want to kill the good stuff on the rock. If I had a crevice or area I just knew that I could not get to I spot killed the rock with running hot fresh water. A couple weeks later I did the same thing and that pretty well got it. Huge pain in the butt, moral of the story don't let it get away from you. Every once in a while I see one and I pull it off with the tweezers. It would be nice to be able to take the rock out every time I see one but it would take too long to put my tank back together. Just pull it off as carefully as you can. It is only in part of the life cycle that they release the spawn of the devil little buggers. Just pull it out when you see it and it will not get away from you.

Oh and dissection tweezers work great! You can get a good hold of even tiny ones and not destroy them in the process. The tip has a tooth that fits into an opposing V.

Valonia: I simply pop them with a pin on the end of a stick. I make sure I have herbivores to eat them. Emerald Crab and Tang. Tangs like to eat the big ones after they are popped. I've never had a problem. There are rumors that popping spreads them. From my experience this is not true.

Last time I had an issue I just turned up the skimmer and they went away. I used to have a 75 that had hundreds of them. They looked cool but were taking over. I bought my g4 for that system and they were gone 2 weeks later. In my experience they thrive under dirty conditions.

I had it pretty bad. Got a couple of emerald crabs and let them go to work. They took it down 90% in three weeks. Now I have one or two here and there but nothing like before. If popping them spread it, then how could the mythrix possibly erradicate it? I think this theory is bogus or the bubble has to be in a particular biological state for spore release to happen.
Some say the mythrix will not eat the big bubbles...well I am here to say I have seen my crab grab one the size of a grape, pop it, and then proceed to gobble it up!
