Can you bomb your house for fleas, without harming your tank?? I live in a duplex and the neighbor got a flea infested cat, now I've got fleas and I'm scared to bomb for them! Any advise?

WOW I didnt know Utah had flea's unless the dog or cat has been out of state to where they do.  As for bombing a house with a flea bomb I had to do it once when I live up in Washington.  I turned off all the pumps and then I took plastic wrap and wrapped up my tank for a few hours while I bombed it.  Then I took a air pump and close to 25ft of air line and ran the air line out side through a crack in the window.  I hooked up the pump so it could pump fresh air into the tank.  I never lost anything in the case but I was willing to give it a shot because it was just a freshwater tank with just some guppies in it so if they died I really wasnt out much.  But everthing made it out just fine.

She lives in Oklahoma.
It will definitely kill almost every invertebrate in the tank and may also affect the fish so you must take every precaution to keep positive pressure, clean fresh air coming into the tank and sump water surfaces during the bombing. If there is any alternative to bombing, I would do it.

It depends on the chemical used. I know a tank that died during bombing in spite of the companies claim that it would be okay.

Well, crap. I knew it would be almost impossible to bomb the house without killing any livestock.  I am going to try an old home remedy tonight. Someone at work told me to put a bowl of water with dawn dishsoap in it in the floor, turn out all the lights when I go to bed and put a flashlight by the bowl. The fleas are supposed to be attracted to the soap and get caught in the water. I'll let ya'll know how it goes, lol

Why don't you guys have fleas in Utah??

Great question. I've had a veterinarian tell me dogs here don't get fleas. I've also heard from rabbit hunters that at times the rabbits here are really infested. I've not seen one here or found one on my dog but I wonder what the real truth is.

that trick does work. I am from ohio and we frequently get fleas there. How bad is your infestation. My suggestion would be to get your dogs on frontline. This will kill all the fleas on your pet. Eventually all the ones in your house will be on your dog at one point in time and this will help kill them all. They are parasites and cannot live without a host. They also make pump sprays and powders for the carpet i would use in addition. This has worked for me in the past without using a bomb. Keep your animals on frontline every flea season to keep them from coming back :)

Same reason St. George has lots of Cockroaches and Tarantulas but Salt lake doesn't. It's the climate.
In the humid midwest you can't lay on the lawn or you'll be chigger fodder. The grass in St. George is sharp as a razor. In Salt Lake that's one of my favorite summer evening pasttimes.

Hmm, that is pretty interesting!

My infestation is not really that bad. I don't have any animals except for my fish. Its my neighbor that has a cat with fleas, and we share a duplex, so whatever bugs she has, I have.

Lol, my battery went out in the flashlight last night! I am gonna re-attempt tonight!

The rabbits in wyoming have tons of fleas (I know this from hunting them) but our dogs never got them that I remember.  I think it has to do with the climate as well, they must stay on a host and the climate is to dry/cold during the year for them to survive from one host to another if they are not in contact.
Was that in there yesterday? Casper--WY windier than ?
