I know i am not calling it the right stuff. I got a tube from a LFS a while ago. It is cylindrical and green. It's an epoxy I guess cuz there are two parts to it and you sqush them togethher for a few and it turns white. Well It seems that my SPS corals don't like the stuff. I had some slimer that is mad at me. It is turning white from the base up where it is glued in. And some frogspawn also seems mad. There was others a while ago, but I don't remember.

I thought this stuff was saposed to be coral safe? What gives?

I will just give my warning that your system will flood, bulbs will burn out, and things will take continuous maintenance... get over it.

Jake uses it.  I don't think he's had a problem with it.  But for the most part it doesn't touch the coral tissue anyway.

I use it all the time.  As a matter of fact, I just used 2 tubes of it to attach about 70 frags to frag plugs.

The only bad thing (that I know of) about putty is that it causes the skimmer to go nuts.  I say look for your problem elsewhere.

It's not the epoxy, I too have used lots of this in my tank.  But if it's just a small frag I prefer to use gel super glue, it's less "gaudy".

Skye next time head to Lowes or Home Depot, they have the same stuff for 5.00 instead of 15.00 a tube. I have 20 or so tubes at work in my tank and I have never lost even the smallest of frags to it...
I have flying monkeys and I'm not afraid to use them.

I'm pretty sure I killed my green slimer with it. I accidentaly pushed it to far into the puddy and the quarter inch below died, causing the rest to rot.  so just put them in as little as you can to make them stick.  Also be very careful with any LPS to not touch the soft tissue as a slight bump could kill them.

The two stage epoxy heats up as you prepare it. "you sqush them togethher for a few and it turns white". Direct heat on the soft tissue of the coral can cause it to recede away from that area. It is safe for corals in that there are no toxins to hurt them. But like it was said, try your darnedest not to touch the soft tissue with it. Also, try to attach the coral once the epoxy has had a chance to cool down like which shouldn't take long submerged. Just a few thoughts.

Yep 70 - and another 100 or so that I'll be doing in the next month.

You're more than welcome to come look at my new propagation setup!

I use it all the time.  In fact I will often take a cutting and press it into the epoxy covering the part of the coral that I cut and the flesh around the area.  I have very good success with this method (almost 100% if it is a healthy coral).  Shortly after the coral is attached it will usually start to over grow the epoxy.  If you have good coralline growth the epoxy looks like live rock in a matter of a week or two.

I have often done hundreds of cuttings in one day using this method.  It is my preferred method for most stonies and LPS.

So in short.  I don't think the corals are dying from the epoxy.

Also the epoxy does heat up, but if you get the cutting back into the water ASAP the heat will dissipate into the water reducing the amount of heat the coral tissue receives.

I noticed it mostly in my slimer. I did use alot for the frag though. Maybe I'll put it back after a week or so so it can have some regrowth.
