As some of you know, I have never been able to grow coraline algae in my tank.  I live in Oklahoma and I guess there is just something in the water here that has been keeping it from growing?  I don't know! I've done everything to grow this stuff but I've just never been able to do it.  So get this, I got some pods from Amie and they were in green water, (I don't know anything about that stuff but I'm assuming its algae), anyways and I haven't done a water change in 3 weeks.  All of a sudden, I'm getting pink coraline on my powerheads and back glass!  I don't know if it was the stuff that Amie sent or the lack of water changes, or what?  What do you guys think?  Should I keep laying off the water changes?

I know some of you are saying "I wish mine would stop growing because I can't keep it scraped off!"  But my rocks are the same color they were when I got them, brown, and this would really brighten my tank up!  I'm soooo happy!

I really like the looks of Coraline algae especially when it is so thick on live rock that it looks like it was dipped in ping honey.  I have about 5 different types in my tanks which are glass so I scrape a lot.  If I had acrylic I would not like it nearly as much...

That's great Kindra! I like coraline algae too except when it gets on the front glass. If you had NONE then maybe what was in the water from Amie "seeded" your tank with coraline.

You know, I got kind of lazy and have cut back the # of water changes (like once every 3 weeks...) and my coraline has started growing like crazy... I just figured it was because my tank is maturing, but now you have me thinking that maybe less water changes have something to do with it.... hmmmmmm

No, I don't think what Amie gave me seeded it, because I did already have some on rocks that I've bought that came with corals on them.  I just couldn't get it to grow, it just stays on the one rock and the rest of my rock just stays brown and green. Unhappy

I think it was Mark that had suggested I cut back on the water changes.  He had responded to my post about not being able to grow it.  I just couldn't handle not doing water changes because it makes me feel like I'm letting things go or not tending to the tank like I should.  But I put my new canopy on my tank and I don't have a way to lift it and the lighting up, so I haven't been able to do a water change.
