Really? Dang it. I did the stupid thing and just was playing in my tank. Thats the only side affect that I am experiencing. I think they are palys dont know why I said zoos. Well what should I look for now? It was only a little bit like I said, It got under my fingernail where there was a cut. Dang, just a little harmless rearanging and now this. Should I expect anything else? It was like 4 hours ago

I don't know for sure but I would have expected the worst by now. Palytoxin is one of the deadliest known.

yeah I think the gut ache is coming on. How long will it last? The stupid thing is is the gloves are right in my stand. I first noticed the foul taste when I licked my mustache then a piece of bread didnt taste right. It really sucks. There is a slight ache, but not too bad yet. I have washed my hands and face really good since then.

I hate to ask why you were licking your mustache? leftovers? I hate wearing my gloves, I can't grab anything, I use the corallife gloves, blue and orange. Anyone have any other suggestions.
And dustin, I hope your feeling better now, I've never heard of this before, so I guess I'll have to keep from licking the palys from now on.

oh yeah....this can be pretty bad....just ask Anthony Calfo.....he shared a nice little story about how he thought he was going to die.....so he just went into the kitchen and ate mustard with peanut butter because he completly lost his sense of taste....then he scribbled out a living will and went to bed......he survived, but now the reaction to the toxin is worse and worse and easier to get each time......wear gloves......I just bring some home from the shop, but you can pick up a box of 1000 gloves for like $16.....worth not almost killing yourself.....it is strange that this happend on the night I fragged 18 different zoa colonies in my tank.....it was a good reminder for me to use my gloves......also if you are fraging, use eye protection.....I actually got squirted in the face tonight by a paly, it hit my safety glasses and would have hit my eye......luck for me I had the glasses on.....and wipped up the water fast......

Horror stories abound about palytoxin poisoning as well as the bacterial infections. Yuck. I try to touch coral as little as possible, and I get carried away washing my hands after doing anything with coral.

Well the reason I was licking my mustache is because it was cold out and I had ice on it. Thats when I noticed that it tasted metalicy.
And dustin, I hope your feeling better now, I've never heard of this before, so I guess I'll have to keep from licking the palys from now on. |
This morning I feel awsome I ate a snackpack and everything was fine, I could taste the nice chocolate flavor and it was oh so good. ANy way lesson learned. Thanks to everyone for informing me what was going on. I knew this could happen but didnt think anything of it. stupid me. Thanks again

This is interesting. I have never had any ill affects from touching any of my palys or zoos. I have never worn golves either. but after reading all of the horror stories lately, I might find me a pair. Each of us must react differently with the toxins because I have moved my paly colonys many times with no gloves and have never felt the affects. I hope Dustponds is ok!

Same here, never had any ill effects and had paly/zoo slime all over my fingers. I always have washed my hands well after being in the tank though. After reading this, I think I'll look into a pair of gloves too. I keep forgetting that some of the smallest things in a tank could be dangerous.
