Hi all,

What kind of super glue or epoxy do you all recommend for positioning corals on live rock?  And.....where can I go to get it.

at the smith's market place (old fred meyer) at about 5th east and 7th south down in the business isle they have this super glue that comes in purple packages and its just called  "gel super glue".  its about $2.99 for a 2 pack.  it is by far the best i've used, and is far thicker than any other "gel" CA glues i've used..  i bought about 40 of them after i discovered them worried they might stop carrying it.

i bought just one recently and it was far runnier than the old ones though so i'm hoping they didn't change their formula.

I use Balsa USA Gold (thick). You can get it at the Woodcraft.
Their new location is 9891 South 500 West.

You get 2oz. for $9.50.  It comes in thick or thin versions and lasts forever.

Merk,

I like to use BSI Adhesives CA glue products.  Here is a link for a dealer locator: http://www.bsiadhesives.com/Pages/hobby/hdealer/index.html

For mounting frags onto plugs I like Maxi-Cure which is an extra thick CA.

For mounting in the tank, I like to use their IC Gel which comes in a 20 gm tube.

They now have IC-2000 which is a black CA glue that is just a little thinner than the Maxi-cure.  I like to use it when I want to hide the fact that I just glued frags in the tank.  Instead of a glaring white blob I get a dull black blob that blends in better.

Some day I will talk the lovely gracious Monica into letting me get a 200gm tube of Paleo-Bond Jurassic Gel.  That is what GARF used a while back.  You can gel 200gm for $36...

Thanks,

Okay but can I glue corals and rock with this stuff underwater?  That green and white epoxy stuff sucks.

It takes practice but you can glue rock and coral under water with CA glue.  my 120 gallon tank probably had over 100 ounces in it holding rock and coral in place...

I tried the marine epoxy but was never very effective with it.  I did use it on the couple of very large coral I was moving, but I had to hold the coral in place with fishing line until it set up.

Thanks,

With coral frags, I like to dry the spot that I want to stick to the rock with a dry paper towel so that there is at least one very adhesive spot, and then I put it underwater and hold it in the place where I want it. Don't be affraid to put a huge gob on the coral. I have never had any adverse effects. The coral will eventually grow over the glue and you won't be able to see it anymore. And for glueing things with it underwater, I think it works pretty good too, just make sure that you force the gel to stick with the tip of the tube.

As far as preference goes, I think that the SUPER GLUE brand sucks. I buy the cheepest no-name brand gel that wal-mart has.

The best deal on gel superglue..... All A Dollar.   You get 3 tubes of the Gel for a buck.  A tube is the perfect size to mount a few frags and toss.  Those large tubes of CA turn into a mess after several uses.

Is this a version of super glue or the 2 part putty stuff?
