Topic: Koralia = junk? Posted: February 08 2010 at 7:46pm |
I got my Koralia Nano pump today. While attaching the pump to the suction cup, the little plastic ball broke off! I superglued it hoping that would work but not entirely expecting it to. No, it didn't work. Other than the obvious garbage can, is there a fix for this? What other brands would work well in a 14g nano?

The Koralia Nano is notorious for that failure. Did you get it used or new?
You can get a small Maxi Jet or Rio pump to put on the tank. I just added a Rio 400 to my 24 gallon nano and left all attachments off so it blows out in a wider stream instead of a direct stream. I currently have an MJ1200 for return, a Koralia 1, a Rio 200 and a Rio 400 in my tank.

I have had different types of problems with korilia pumps and everytime I emailed Korilia with my problem they immediately shipped me the replacement parts for free. (more than once)

The nano is the only size that I've had problems with.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. I emailed them. The privacy policy, which you are required to read, is in Italian. We'll see how it goes. Based on your experiences, I'm sure they'll take care of it. Thanks!

So far I'm not impressed with Koralia. They responded to my email saying that they can't send me a replacement part and that I would have to send them the entire unit so they can replace it. Really?!? I need to pay shipping for them to fix something that is obviously a poorly made product? I'll be calling them tomorrow to give them one last chance at keeping a customer. Maybe someone there understands that it is 7 times cheaper to retain an existing customer than to find a new one. Maybe that someone will also understand that a happy customer tells 10 people whereas an unhappy customer tells 100.

I spoke with Mike of Hydor USA today. He was reluctant but did agree to send me a return shipping label. I'll be without a powerhead while they are swapping it out, but I'm happy that they are owning up and taking care of this for me. I still find it strange that Hydor can't just send out the little clip/ball, especially since this seems fairly common. Obviously it would be cheaper to replace a small part than to replace the whole product.

Most likely because it's manufactured in a foreign country and are unable to get individual parts. It's actual cheaper just to replace the whole unit with some products.

It took a while but I did get a replacement powerhead from hydor. I really appreciate companies that stand behind their products. They will continue to get my business.
