Thanks for all your advise. I ordered the ATI 60 inch unit 8 x 80 watt today.... I am very excited..

Now I want to be sure I order the correct bulbs.  I like a bright tank but with lots of atinic to get the corals to color up.. I currently have 3 250 watt MH that I run a Blue Line 14K bulb in. I really like the color.... Not the power bill.

Am I right in thinking I can get this from ATI bulbs:
5 Blue plus
2 Purple Plus
1 GE 6500 K

My tank is a full walk around so I am nervous with the one 6500 K...  HELP!!!

An extra bulb... Great idea I never thought of that. I think I will get two or three.... Might as well save on the shipping...

I just picked up a 24" ati 6 bulb also! I can't wait to get it on one of my frag tanks.
What?! You pooped in the refrigerator, and ate the entire wheel of cheese?! I'm not even mad.... That's actually amazing!

Congrats on the purchase but don't plan on much energy savings. Depending on how long you run them but probably less than 10 cents a day. It only uses 110 w less an hour.

That is assuming her metal halide ballasts ran the bulbs at the 250w rating which is highly unlikely. Most metal halide ballasts will over drive bulbs. The ballasts could of been running the bulbs upwards of 300w each.

You are also assuming she has no chiller. I am not assuming she does but if so, the savings will be MUCH more than 10 cents a day.

Connie,

Make sure you go SLOW and acclimate your stuff properly. The corals will need some time to adjust the different intensity and the "blanket" of light they will be receiving from the T5s.

If you wanted to get a different bulb than the GE 6500 to experiment with, I have one that I used for about a month and decided to go a little more blue. Its an 80w too. I would trade you for a frag or something. Doesnt do me much good just sitting in my storage room.

Well they have been on for three days now and so far I LOVE THIS LIGHT....

Color of coral is much brighter, cyano is disappearing, heating issues gone as well as the cooling fan on the sump.

Tank is much brighter yet the color is better....  Best move I've ever made and worth every dime.....

Awesome Connie!!! I have debated on going T5 and with a higher end fixture as I think that is my problem with T5 I always get the cheap fixture and they don't put out as great of light. The fixture was so sleek looking the other night when I was at your place I loved it!
Post pics, post pics, post pics:)!!!!

Jackie I have the PowerModule 8*24W and so far I love it. I have coral in my tank now and they seem to love the light as I am getting great color(mainly LPS so far). Feel free to check it out anytime or if you have question let me know.

Connie, I am happy you love the fixture and I'm sure your corals will love it too. My heat my 93 changes maybe 1 degree a day.

I wish I could find a used 4 bulb one :( I don't have the funds to pay $400 for the fixture and another $80-100 in bulbs:(

just a word of advice/caution...I got my ATI about a month ago for my tank which was previously lit with a lower end T5 fixture.....I setup the new ATI at 8 inches high above my tank, my corals begin bleaching within a week or two.....make sure your new fixture is quite high off (10-12 inches) the tank and carefully watch your corals, the ATI fixtures have a great deal of PAR....if things appear good after 3-4 weeks, slowly lower it to the sweet spot (typically 6-8 inches)...

Enjoy!

oh and you might want to try a kz new generation (12-14k, white blue) if the GE 6500k is too yellow/orange for you....that bulb seems to be popular in current bulb combos, but I just can't force myself to use it....brand new sitting in my garage....
