i bought a shark egg about a month ago and it has grown alot since, i was reading and it said normally within a few weeks after the stores get them they hatch, well like i said it has grown alot since and now i am noticing the ends of the eggs atarting to seperate, i guess my question is do they tear through the side of the egg or do they wait until the ends seperate? i would say he should hatch here in the next week or so. while i was on vacation for the last 2 weeks it grew so much i amost cant see through the egg anymore. he is a chubby lil guy!!

I believe they go through the top or bottom not the ends. Bruce had one hatch recently. He would know for sure.

I would not help the shark out of the egg.  Let him get out on his own.

well i have been waiting for my egg to hatch for some time now and i watch it closely everyday. the egg yolk has been gone for a few days now the shark has dissolved it all, but there is no sign of him hatching and i am gettin worried how long can he survive in the egg without any food/yolksack, he is still moving around as of tonight.

One of the most common sharks kept in aquariums, the Black Banded Cat shark is a very popular choice for a fish only system. Hatching time for the egg will be approximately 1 - 4 weeks depending on development stage and environment in the home aquarium. Requiring a tank of at least 180 or larger, this fish grows to be 3 - 5 feet. Requires soft substrate as rough sand will cause infection due to lacerations. Coloration will be cream-colored with broad, dark brown stripes. < content=all name=robots> < content=" Shark Egg Cephaloscyllium ventriosum Cat Shark, Banded Cat Shark Egg" name=Keywords> < content=" Shark Egg Cephaloscyllium ventriosum Cat Shark, Banded Cat Shark Egg" name=Deion>

I hatched one a couple years ago. I ended up getting scared it would eat stuff in my tank so I sold it to a different pet store than the one I bought the egg from. From what I remember, the purse just kinda opened in one spot and out came the shark. I never saw him hatch but when my brother came upstairs screaming that it had hatched, I grabbed the egg to look at it. You can usually tell if the shark is still alive - it will always be moving in one way or another. Patience is key and you'll have him soon if he's doing well. Good luck! I look forward to photos!

Mine broke through the side of the egg without help. I read that it is a good idea to suspend the egg with a clip so it doesnt just lay on the sandbed. I did this and it hatched just fine. Unfortunalty it stopped eating after a few weeks.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.  I have seen them live weeks after their yolk sac is no longer visible. I think they may still have a large reserve, just not visible.

I did some research and this is what they say to feed them.  at first live shrimp and cleaned squid. Once they get bigger they will eat marine flesh, shrimp, mussels and cockles. also you will need at least a 180 gallon tank.
