Ok .. I have have been slowly getting a handle on some aptasia in my tank .. never did get out of control in the display .. but I wanted to nip it before it did .. I just looked in my over flows and WHOLLY APTASIA INFESTATION BATMAN! ... how do I kill the Aptasia in the overflows? ... I have been using the AptasiaX to kill them in my display (Great product BTW) .. but there is no way that I can get into my overflows ...

If you can collect them I will take some from you...I agree with Crystal...try beghia...
Amie, Crystal and I raise them.
Crap they are in your overflows. The flow might be too much for them. Could you shut down one overflow then the other?

That is a good question .. I don't know if 1 of the overflow will handle the flow .. I can shut one down .. but my question would be how long I can do that with out the water getting circulated .. will they live in there for a day or so?
how fast do they eat the aptasia? and how much do you want for them?
I have a 65 gallon that is just loaded with them .. not too sure what to do about that tank ...
EDIT: If you want to come collect a bunch you are more than welcome too ..

My thought would be to just remove one overflow and boil it or just run boiling water through it. I dont know if this is possible but it would be a sure fire way to kill them. And without knowing the tank setup its hard to say but maybe you just take both off for a short time and do both. Im pretty sure that would work

Hay Aaron, They are not removable ... and I would hate to pour boiling hot water on glass .. I don't think that would be a good thing ... Thanks for the suggestion though! Starting to make me think outside the box

OO I don't know .. lol .. not really sure its worth taking the risk of the glass breaking do to the sudden heat difference .. I have had a tank crack on me when I was trying to quick dry silicone with a hair dryer ... like taking a glass cookware out of the oven and run tap water over it .. its going to break .. granted the water will not be 400* ... still not real keen on trying that .. lol

They will be fine for weeks if not months and would depend on water quality and temperature. As long as the water didn't become polluted and the temp change wasn't extreme they would last a long time. My worry with even keeping the overflow open a crack, is that they would find their way to your sump.

I'd shut off each overflow at a time, the overflow temp should say pretty warm since the tank water will only be on the other side of the plastic. . A mature adult berghia can eat several per day, especially in a safe environment like that, where the aiptasia are easy to find and you don't have to worry about fish messing with the berghia.

Ok new thought. What if you shut one down at a time and SLOWLY raised the temp of the water in it? I imagine it would only have to reach 95-100 to kill everything for sure. You could probably do that in about an hour without breaking it. Just take 1/2 cup water out and add 1/2 cup hot water, wait a couple of min and repeat. I have heard amazing things about berghia as I have a small aiptasia problem. But I have read that they can struggle with large ones(which yours probably are without being controlled ever). And the price is also tough. Up to $15 a pop. Though I doubt it would cost that much if you can get them from fellow club members (yeah for a cool club )
