Topic: Smacked Me A LionFish Posted: February 24 2011 at 11:28pm |
This is How it Worked out.
It Burned like Hell.
Stung Me 6 Times!
So if you ever feel the Need to Smack one here is what to do After the Fact
1-Scream Like Hell Use some Profanity!Make It Count!
2-While Screaming Run your ass to the nearest Hot Water Faucet and Run the Hottest water you can stand over the Punctured Area.Hot water helps Deactivate the Vemon.Venom Needs the cold water.
3-Stand there for 30-45 minutes, all the while Screaming in a whining sort of way and boderline scalding the already Burning from the Inside Wound.Remove When Burning is Tolerable.
4-For the next 24-48 Hours expect to feel the Vemon coursing through the body along with some Blisters and then lets add some Redness to Highlight the Swelling.
So Kids what have WE learned?
1-DON'T SMACK THE LIONFISH
2-DON'T SMACK THE LIONFISH
3-DON'T SMACK THE LIONFISH
So in all seriousness This is what Posion Control will tell you to do.So now you Know.
If you have allergic Reactions to bee stings DO NOT own this fish if you phyiscally put your hand in your tank. Please Could be Deadly. No Fish is Worth Yor Life.

My lionfish always moved away from me. How did you happen to get it so bad, six times or six spines?

Ouch! That really sucks. Well at least I now know what to do!
Quick question - do you have that fish in a reef tank or a FOWLR?

It was an 8in Lion.He is in a Reef Tank.
All my lions move away from my hand when inside the Tank(Thank the lord they are not Aggresive)I was doing some tank Maintance, cleaning the Back side of the tank with a Scraper
when the the scraper handle bumped one of the Rocks and out of reflex i whent to grab it before it hit anything and Pinned the Lion up against the back of the Tank.Got me with six of his Spines.
Along the Side of my Hand.Needless to say i missed the Rock.I guess thats what you get when you do not let the Coraline and what not grow on the back of the Tank.
Just wanted to inform,so if it ever happens to someone else they will know what to do and expect.

I thought lionfish were more poisonous that required medical help is the sting compared to foxface or sea urchin?

So I am considering getting some type of dwarf lionfish for my reef tank and I am worried about a couple things. 1 I am worried that it will eat my smaller fish like my green chromis damsels or my clowns. 2 I am worried that it will be trouble to feed it and keep it alive since I have heard that they are picky eaters. What can you guys tell me?

I would recommend you talk to Jwoo, as he has successfully kept one for some time now. But be prepared to feed it live foods for a long time as they will often go back and forth from prepared foods.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I've had one now for 7 months in a 45 gallon reef. I have several smallish fish in there with him as well as a cleaner shrimp. I wouldn't worry too much about your fish - dwarf lions are pretty small. Anything over an inch and a half will likely be too big.
Mine wouldn't eat frozen food for the first 5 months I had him so be prepared for that. I did get him on frozen and he now eats any frozen meaty items I put in the tank, but it was a battle for the first 5 months. Just be patient as they will sometimes eat frozen for a while then refuse to eat anything but live for a while. Just be patient. I learned some good tricks that would have made it easier had I known from the get go.
I say go for it! I love my dwarf lion! He is the one fish that gets the most conversation in my tank and just looks totally awesome in a reef tank. He likes to hand out upside down on the outcroppings of rocks or under my acro's.
PM if you want to talk more!

I have one in my 24 aquapod and have had no problems with him. I have some smaller fish (clowns, 6 line, etc..) and he has never even thought about going after them. I fed him live food for the first 2 weeks and i have now trained him to take frozen krill. I just wave the krill at the top of the tank for a second, as soon as he sees it he cruises up and takes it from me, he is very fun to feed. I'd definitely recommend one, they are awesome fish!

My understanding is that a bee sting is different from the sting of a fox face or lion fish. Am I misinformed?

Completely different.I'll take a bee sting over a lion sting anyday.even multiple bee stings.
