 Topic: Clam mantle

So my bicolor blenny decided my clams looked tasty. I've pulled them and placed them in a friends tank.
So my question is will the mantles heal and grow back? Or are my clams scared for good?? One of them is pretty bad, but still opens up.

I'm not sure their is a definitive answer here. As you know clams are extremely sensitive and my experience has been that once they are damaged, they almost never recover. However, if they are healthy and the environment is pristine, they can heal and be as good as before.

It's all about what else there is to eat in the tank. Blennies like soft algae growing on surfaces, but there isn't enough of that they will eat animal flesh to get the zooxanthellae algae.
If the hobbyist catches it early, fish training helps.

I know he feeds his fish ALOT lol. so it is not that. blennys are known to eat clams look at live aquaria. And I put a shocking collar on mine LOL

My derasa clam had part of the mantle eaten by a whelk, and after removing the whelks from the tank it did recover after awhile. Now you would never know anything happened to it. Best of luck on things.

Yeah I did not believe at first either, but the blenny was the culperate. Needless to say he will not be joining all his friends in the 120g when the switch is made. Clams seem to be recovering so far. As we all know it will be a bit before recovered, but will keep everyone posted.
And fishnfresh is right, I feed a lot! I also have nori offered pretty much around the clock. And in all honesty unless my tank starts going down hill I'm not going to stop feeding like I do. My water params are just fine, fish are healthy, and my growth is out of control. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I had a clam that had some damage to its mantle, and it did heal eventually with no problems. Also had one that had the mantle get a bit shaded from the light, and lost almost all color. Once I moved it into a higher light area, it was fine. And as for bicolor blennies as a side note, I'll never have another one. In my beginner days I bought what I thought was one, but it turned out to be one of the horrid fang blennies...and the stupid thing was beyond territorial. He went after me one day for getting too close to his hole and left a *lovely* bite. That day he was banished to the sump.

I had a midas with my big clam and no problems. also have a starry but no clam in that tank. Think they are hit and miss. Some munch on them and some dont. Just like damsels quickness had two that munched on his coral right when he got it never woulda belived it and then when mine got bigger caught him nippin at mine.think it was a bluefin damsel. But I got a coral beauty that so far is a model citizen (knocks on wood)

I love mine. Little territorial with my Anthias in the 90G but no problems in the 265G.
