Topic: 75 gallons RO/DI Posted: October 24 2012 at 3:18pm |

What is the best way for me to get 75 gallons of RO/DI without the investment in a RO/DI filter. I will be needing to fill up a new tank in two weeks and do not have the money to shell out for a quality filter at the moment. I know Aquatic Evolution/ Reef Runners give you free RO but is it frowned upon to show up at take 75 gallons? How did you all fill up your tanks and what do you recommend.

If you want that much water from a store, I would at least talk to the store first before showing up to collect the water.
I'm not sure of they have the ability to give you 75g of RO water all at once... that is about 24 hours worth of RO production from most filtration systems.

You can also pay some of the LFS stores to deliver salt water to you for your initial tank fill up -- that is what I did for my new tank.
And by the way, if it really is RO/DI water you are looking for, some of the local shops only make RO water. I don't know about the ones you mentioned, but that is a question you may want to ask.
When you can get the money together, I think a home unit is well worth the money. I don't ever have to worry about having enough water to use when I want to use it.

I think Aquatic Evolution said their RO container was 275 gallons last time I got a few buckets there, so I think I'll ask them - maybe space it out over two days. I did ask about delivery from the Aquarium in Sandy but was quoted at about half the cost of an RO/DI filter, I know in the long run I will get a filter but as many of you know at the start of setting up a tank your dumping money into many other things and I know getting 75 gallons is doable even if its a pain and I will get the filter when money warrants it. Thanks guys

I did a search when I started my tank as to how people on the forum handled this. Seems a lot of people just started their tank with tap water. Then make sure to use ro after for water changes and top off. So that's what I did. Hit the search up.
Edit found a good thread, probably the one I read. http://utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=57070&KW=Start+tank+with+tap+water&title=filling-tank-with-hose-water

I've started every aquarium I've ever done with tap water. Straight RO/DI thereafter.

Bryce; You are welcome to come and get all the water you need. We have no limits. We also have premixed as well, $.60/ Gallon. Call about the premixed first to make sure I have enough, we go through 500 Gallons a week. As of tomorrow (Friday) we will have a fresh batch of the salty stuff if needed.

Awesome thanks Shaun, Bmac is going to help me out with the initial fill of my tank as he is closer to me, less drive/transport but I will definately stop by this weekend to get 20 gal of RO for my dry rock cure I have going on trying to reduce the phosphates leaching. Thanks again and my kids are loving the fish we got the last 2 weeks from your store (well the Wheeler Goby jumped out of a 3/4 gap in my lid I had for gas exchange but he was cute while he lasted).
