Topic: Neptune Jr. controller Posted: September 17 2007 at 10:43am |
OK new to the controller thing.......If I get the Neptune Jr. and the dirrect connect 8, does this allow me to do my sunrise and sunset, as well as control my temp by turning my fans on, and heater off{or vice versa}?
Also will this allow me to run my moon lights?
I have priced out just buying the digital timers and installing a couple of new outlets{12 total} and am around $130......but this would not control the temp......so I was thinking of adding another temp control for another $120......
If anyone has used their neptune controller for what I have described, let me know how you like it....

yes, the aqua jr can do all of the above, the moonlight is
"technically" not there but if you were to plug a incandescent light
into outlet #6 it can be done, (this is what I am doing) or neptune now
sells a module that can do it, you can also control based on ph, one
suggestion is to make sure that you get the serial port option then you
can program it via a pc. the learning curve is easier if you can see
the program all at the same time.
also as your needs change your programming can change, this is the greatest thing about getting the neptune, IMO

Yes it does all of that as well as moon phases which is what Brian is talking about. Make sure to get the serial port option.
Bruce at Ewaldsreef has these http://www.ewaldsreef.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=146&osCsid=55561b5a62b092dd830f99da762b3158

Also, with the serial port you can monitor the tank conditions, hours, weeks months. If I would have had this on mine I would have (possibly) seen the increase in tank temp.

It is a bit confusing but if you are planning on getting the RS-232 cable and planning on running to a pc then you would buy the aquanotes software which both runs the x10 controlers (through the neptune) and monitors the parameters (again through the neptunes ram), though you don't need to run through the pc. I am not an expert on this so, I would talk to someone more familiar with the jr model. According to the picture I don't see a port for pc interface. I found the following on the Nepute website...
If the AquaControllerJr is purchased with the optional serial port it can be connected to PC via a standard RS-232 cable (available from Neptune Systems). The serial interface allows you to download the datalog log as well as retrieve the current status of the monitored parameters and controlled devices in the aquarium. A computer is NOT required to program or operate the AquaController Jr.

If you have the serial port you can use the "AquaNotes Lite" software which is free.

you can download it now from their site, to just check it out, it will make more sense once you have the jr hooked up to it, also their service and support is top notch, I personally had the (I think he is the owner?)spend three hours on the phone with me going over stuff to check out why my temp probe was acting up, in the end he sent me a new temp probe, no charge, it never has had a problem since, and I am going on two years with it, there are others out there, I researched them all, and went with the name brand, have never regretted it, in fact I need to put one on the wifes nano at work.

I talked to Curt (president of Neptune) on Saturday. We have a problem getting our pro3 onto the internet. He was very accommodating with us. After 10-15 minutes he had the problem figured out and we had a plan of action. It was nice to talk to the owner of a company face to face and have him work out a problem like that.
