Remember my cotton covered pink zoos? Now my precious tongue coral has it! I don't have a picture right now, I was heading out the door for work when I saw it. The tongue has a center strip of the white cottony substance, the rest is fine, opened up to those short fat purple tentacles. UGH!
Someone mentioned an iodine dip and a fresh water dip. Can I get specifics? I'm going to try it on the tongue, I love the coral and it's just barely starting to come around.
Tanya
ETA : I know to buy lugolds and follow the directions but do I have to match the temp in the tank? How long should the coral be in fresh water?

Ok, I winged it... the cottony stuff is gone now but you can see the white band it left behind and a brown-ish spot (right hand side) that seems to be dying currently. This is JUST after I did the iodine dip so it's pretty mad, it has started to open up a bit this morning. I hope it's not too late to save it Do you think it can recover?

I didn't see a Lugols, I got some stuff at AD that's a Seachem I think, Reef Disinfectant with iodine. I do know the cotton is gone, I just hope that white part isn't 100% dead, poor guy!

The white part is the skeleton and is 100% dead. If the parameters are kept good and the light and flow are good then it should grow back in no time.

Eeeew, I'll keep my fingers crossed. I have some new testing stuff (Hagen) coming in today so I can keep better track of parameters. I have some Kalkwasser coming in also to add to my R/O top off water. I have 175W MH's over his part of the tank and he's in a lower flow area on the sandbed. He started out pretty sickly and has sort of perked up, I haven't seen the long purple tentacles with green tips though, they are still stubby but getting longer.

P.S.
Check your ALK and PH it almost looks like the Alk is too high at eating away at the tissue to me. IMO

I had a green tongue coral and it didn't like too much light and the tentacles came out mostly at night.

Yes they are! They have attached already, I'm just afraid to pull off the rubber bands yet and they pulse like crazy!

The best way I have found to get the bands off is when they are REALLY attached just cut the rubber band with a nail cutter and pull it through the softies that way

I just figured it out! It's that bloody dragon goby. When I came home today the tongue had one strip of sand on it.. the same strip that is dead and when I mentioned this to my husband he said it happens every day on the exact same spot and he gently blows the sand off the tongue every day... not sure how but the goby is dropping sand on the same spot day after day! UGH how does one catch a goby without tearing apart the tank?

I don't think the gobie would cause that fungus to grow though. I think you have some kind of pathogen in there that needs to be killed off. Have you tried running ozone or a uv sterilizer? Just my 2 cents.

I caught my clown fish by waiting for the lights to be out for a few hours then shining a flashlight in their eyes and quickly netting them. They didn't move with the light in their eyes. I don't know if this would work with the Goby.

I don't have a UV Sterilizer and after looking at some LFSs I can't afford one right now either. It's due for another iodine dip tomorrow but it's gotten worse tonight. I wasn't sure what to do so to rule out something in the sand I put it in a soft plastic bowl in the tank.. it was in a bare bottom tank when I bought it so I'm sure the soft plastic won't hurt it. I will see how it does for a few days with no sand on it. Tomorrow's WC day too so maybe some fresh water will help.
I got my new Hagen tests in and they are confusing.. I showed I had 130 alk which according to the box was high (it suggested 125 max). I don't know how that calculates into the 10 dkH I had last week but if it's high I'm not sure how it raised, I haven't dosed anything since the reading of 10 dkH. I've been trying to find a conversion so I can get a better idea of what the 130 means.. I only know dkH standards in terms of 8-12.

About 5 years ago, I had the exact same problem with "disolving zoanthids". I immediately hooked up an ozone machine and the problem stopped. I'm not saying this is the cure all for your problem, but it's worth a shot. Is there anyone local you can borrow one from? If you were here in Salt Lake, I would let you use mine for a couple weeks to see if it helps.
